C S Flowers brings you a few easy steps to help chase away winter blues and bring a little spring inside.
- Bring forsythia that has yet to bloom, but has already budded inside. Be sure to cut a small amount of bark off the bottom of the branch, and place in a vase or container with water. Keep the branches out of direct sunlight until they bloom. One should see blooms in a few weeks!
- Purchase already potted spring bulbs. Most green houses and box stores carry spring bulb flowers, like tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths. Best of all, you can plant these again to enjoy next spring either indoors or outside where ever you plan to plant them. If you decide to keep the bulbs to plant indoors, take them out of the pot after they are done blooming and they start to yellow. Place the bulbs in a cool, dry place without sunlight. Plant again in January or February depending on the grow time for the plant. If you plan to plant the bulbs outside, wait until after the first frost, sometime in the fall, to plant.
- Purchase a beautiful spring silk floral arrangement.
Aside from using
spring flowers, adding a little spring to your home is as easy as updating a few accent pieces with some spring color. One can easily accomplish this by changing the throw pillows or blankets in the living room/family room to a lively spring color that matches the rest of the room, add a spring table linen or runner to the dining table, place a spring dish towel on the towel rack in the kitchen, hang some spring color or themed bath towels in the bathroom, and add a spring blanket to the bedroom. It is easy to change the look and feel of a home with a little change to the accent pieces in the home. Plus, you can always store these new spring items to use next year when the winter blues and the spring fever set in!
