The Christmas Wedding

What makes the Christmas wedding elegant, sophisticated, and not anything like a Christmas party?

Colors.

If you choose colors that are not the traditional red and green that we all see for Christmas, you will be able to pull off an elegant, sophisticated, and classy wedding.

So what colors do you use for a Christmas wedding when you want to add a little Christmas spirit to the celebrations?

Blues and silver are elegant, not as traditional, and can be tied into the bridesmaids dresses and tuxes, flower bouquets, and centerpieces.

Another beautiful color scheme would be the use of red or green mixed with gold or silver. Personally, we would use a dark maroon or burgundy red with silver. For green, we would use a dark hunter or forest green with gold.

Of course, the gold and silver could be switched, and one could use any shade of red with gold, and a lighter more silvery green with silver.

Ivory or white also makes a great accent for the color schemes listed above, or as the second color instead of silver or gold, to mix with blue, red, or green.

Remember that even though it is a Christmas wedding, you still want the celebrations and events to say wedding more than Christmas. Most of all, you want the event to reflect your own style and personality.

Revisiting the Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Thanksgiving candle arrangement Photo courtesy of Better Homes & Gardens magazine

Today we want to revisit our Thanksgiving centerpiece post that was published yesterday because we found a few photos, from Better Homes & Gardens, to illustrate our comments regarding the candle arrangements using different height pillar candles.

As you can see from the photos, the arrangements are very simple and very elegant.

The Thanksgiving Centerpiece

If you are entertaining for Thanksgiving, you may have thought, "What kind of centerpiece should I use?"

After all, not everyone uses the turkey for a centerpiece!

Speaking of food themed centerpieces, why not use a basket, a cornucopia, or a nice bowl. Fill the basket with fruit, raw veggies, or colorful bread rolls arranged nicely, and you have a great centerpiece, which will function as part of the feast.

If you are looking for something non-edible for the center of your table, you can always use a nice fall themed floral arrangement, or a candle arrangement.

Candle arrangements can be very simple. Some candle arrangements that make a classy, and easy, centerpiece are ones that create a cluster of different sized pillar candles in the center of the table arranged with the largest in the center, working outward to the smallest. Another simple candle arrangement that looks great is placing taper candles or votive candles in a single line down the center of your table. Add a table runner to the taper candle arrangement to compliment its linear style.

Perhaps you want to use a floral centerpiece. If so, you can always purchase a centerpiece at C S Flowers, or you can create your own using fresh or silk flowers. A single bloom in a pretty vase can compliment your feast without distracting from the main attraction.

A more complex floral arrangement could also compliment your feast, just be sure to purchase one that does not overcrowd your table. Nothing is more distracting than an arrangement that is too big for the table.

As with any type of decorating, Thanksgiving centerpieces can be very simple, complex, elegant, or fun. Whatever your style is, enjoy adding a centerpiece to your festivities.

Ask the Owner

We are excited to be writing our second installment of “Ask the Owner”. We hope that you all enjoy these, and we ask that you take a moment to e-mail us through our website or our profile with questions that you would like to Ask the Owner.

With the holidays approaching, we asked the owner:

What are the best types of decorations to use during Thanksgiving?

There is no perfect decoration to use during your Thanksgiving celebrations. I personally like using decorations that fit into my home’s décor. I like personal decorations, like the ones your kids might bring home from school. Yes, they may not be featured in a decorating magazine, but they add that touch of family, which is what the holidays are all about.

As for my personal favorite Thanksgiving decorations, I enjoy decorating with pumpkins, gourds, and leaves. Pilgrims and turkeys are a second favorite. I also like to use a fall themed floral arrangement for a centerpiece on the table, or a cornucopia spilling fresh fruit.

Berries, pinecones, and poinsettias, although they are more geared toward Christmas, also look fabulous for Thanksgiving. The bonus about using these decorations for your Thanksgiving dinner is that you can leave them up, adding your Christmas tree, and you are ready to celebrate Christmas!

When it comes to decorating for Thanksgiving, I really believe that the best decorations are the ones that show that the host or hostess took great care in choosing and arranging them. Whether you use a beautifully crafted floral arrangement, a simple pumpkin, or your kids’ handmade decoration, display them proudly.

Christmas Is Coming! Let's Deck the Halls!

Did you realize that there are only 50 days left until Christmas?

What does this mean?

Well...there are only 50 days left to do your Christmas shopping, which you could start at C S Flowers.

What it also means, and what we truly get excited about, is there are only 50 days left to decorate for our Christmas celebrations!

With decorating in mind, we would like to visit what we have seen in the stores and magazines that are the latest in holiday decor.

There are a few main colors in for the Christmas holiday this year.

One main color for the 2007 Christmas season is a vibrant red, which can stand alone, or be mixed with green, black, or brown.

In addition to the vibrant reds, we are seeing black and silver combinations, which create a very bold and trendy holiday decor. The black and silver also works well for an office holiday party where your guests may come from many backgrounds, not all of which are celebrating Christmas.

In addition to color trends for the holidays, we are happy to report that the use of berries is still going strong. We are seeing a lot of red berry wreaths, candle rings, and centerpieces. The red berry arrangements are beautiful when displayed alone or with your favorite decorations from past holidays.

Whether you join in on today's trendy holiday Christmas decor, or stay with your favorites from years past. We hope that you have a safe and wonderful holiday season.
