We are excited to announce a new segment for the blog. Once a week we will ask the owner of C S Flowers a question, or series of questions, to get to know the owner.
If you have a question you would like answered here, please feel free to e-mail us through our
profile, or at our
website.
Here are the first two questions in our new series "Ask the Owner":
On the company’s website, and in the blog profile, it mentions that you have a background in interior design. What does this background bring to your floral business? Do you still practice interior design?
My interior design background compliments the floral business because interior design and floral design use some of the same concepts.
Two of those concepts are color coordination and texture.
Color coordination is interchangeable between the two professions. A beautifully coordinated room will draw your attention, just as a beautifully coordinated floral arrangement does.
My eye for color, and experience with creating color palettes for interior design clients transitions smoothly to the floral design business. As new floral arrangements are created, color is a large part of the design. The same holds true for the creation of an interior space.
The second concept of floral design and interior design that compliment each other is the use of texture. Texture in an interior space creates both a tactile response and a visual response that evokes a feeling for the space.
For instance, if you enter a room that has plush carpet, comfortable furniture, and a warm fire burning in the fireplace, you will feel comfortable and cozy from both the tactile experience and the visual experience.
Although the use of texture in a floral arrangement cannot come close to evoking the cozy and comfortable feelings the above interior room could evoke, the use of texture in a floral arrangement will keep your eye moving throughout the arrangement, thus creating visual stimulation.
As for whether I practice interior design, the answer is yes. I work as a freelance interior designer for both commercial and residential clients.
