Ask the Owner

We are excited to announce a new segment for the blog. Once a week we will ask the owner of C S Flowers a question, or series of questions, to get to know the owner.

If you have a question you would like answered here, please feel free to e-mail us through our profile, or at our website.

Here are the first two questions in our new series "Ask the Owner":

On the company’s website, and in the blog profile, it mentions that you have a background in interior design. What does this background bring to your floral business? Do you still practice interior design?

My interior design background compliments the floral business because interior design and floral design use some of the same concepts.

Two of those concepts are color coordination and texture.

Color coordination is interchangeable between the two professions. A beautifully coordinated room will draw your attention, just as a beautifully coordinated floral arrangement does.

My eye for color, and experience with creating color palettes for interior design clients transitions smoothly to the floral design business. As new floral arrangements are created, color is a large part of the design. The same holds true for the creation of an interior space.

The second concept of floral design and interior design that compliment each other is the use of texture. Texture in an interior space creates both a tactile response and a visual response that evokes a feeling for the space.

For instance, if you enter a room that has plush carpet, comfortable furniture, and a warm fire burning in the fireplace, you will feel comfortable and cozy from both the tactile experience and the visual experience.

Although the use of texture in a floral arrangement cannot come close to evoking the cozy and comfortable feelings the above interior room could evoke, the use of texture in a floral arrangement will keep your eye moving throughout the arrangement, thus creating visual stimulation.

As for whether I practice interior design, the answer is yes. I work as a freelance interior designer for both commercial and residential clients.

Elegant Entertaining for the Holidays

With the holidays approaching, many of us are starting to plan our holiday gatherings. For those of you who are planning an elegant event, here are some decorating ideas to pull off your party.

For an elegant, and simple table decoration, add some beautifully shaped floating candles to a glass bowl on top of a mirror.

For a more elaborate centerpiece, use a beautifully crafted floral arrangement .

Not fond of large centerpieces? Why not use smaller floral arrangements or votive candles and scatter them around the table.

For a round table, you can place the flowers or candles in front of each guest or every other guest. For a square table, evenly space the flowers or candles along the center of the table to create a beautiful linear design.

The smaller arrangements can then be used as a favor to thank your guests for attending your event.

Do not forget to use linens and nice tableware to complete the elegance.

Enjoy the Autumn Foliage

Here in Western Pennsylvania we are enjoying the beautiful Autumn foliage, which reminded us of a wonderful product that can add a touch of autumn to your festivities during the fall season.

Check out our floating fall leaf candles in maple, oak, or sycamore leaf shapes. You can choose from a variety of fall colors to match your decor, or mix-and-match to create a festive arrangement of leaves!

We enjoy burning them in a beautiful water-filled glass bowl, but you can enjoy them without water on your favorite candle platter.

Note: for a beautiful bubble-free floating candle arrangement, use distilled water.

Autumn Decor

Have you seen the latest Autumn decor at the stores?

Everything from wreaths decorated in harvest wheat and leaves, to colorful bouquets, and floral arrangements with pumpkins, gourds and goblins.

Do you ever see the latest decorations, and say to yourself, "I like it, but...it needs something here, or maybe if they added a pumpkin there, or it lacks the colors that will coordinate well with my home."

I have done this.

Let's face it, we all do this.

That is why I believe that custom floral designs, whether they are a spin-off of something you saw that needed "a little more" or they are totally unique, to reflect your own style, are what you need when a pre-made floral "does not cut it".

C S Flowers offers custom floral designs from an arrangement, a wreath, a bouquet, a candle ring, or a swag, made just for you. We also offer matching arrangements and wreaths to coordinate your decor.

The best part is there is no extra charge for custom designs. We work with you up front to ensure that the custom floral designed fits within your budget.

What more could you ask for?

Perhaps you are asking, "How do I get a custom design?"

It's easy!

Drop us an e-mail at customer_service@csflowers.net and we will gladly start working with you to create that beautiful, quality floral that you have been waiting for.
